There is no fixed number because box sizes and packing styles vary. One kilogram will fill far more shallow jewellery or favour boxes than large hamper boxes. Enter your box dimensions and total quantity into the calculator to estimate how far 1 kg will go for your particular packaging.

Choose Main filler when crinkle paper is filling empty space, supporting products or forming the main base of the box. Choose Accent layer when you only need a lighter decorative layer around or beneath products. Accent use generally requires less paper.

Use the internal measurements of the box. Measure the usable space from inside edge to inside edge. External measurements include the thickness of the box material and can slightly overstate the space that needs to be filled.

Fill depth is the approximate vertical depth of the space you want the crinkle paper to occupy. You do not always need to enter the full height of the box. For example, if your products occupy most of the box and you only need a 40 mm layer beneath them, enter 40 mm rather than the full box height.

The calculator does not scan or calculate the exact volume of the products themselves. Instead, use the fill depth field to estimate the space you actually want to fill. If a large product already occupies most of the box, use a shallower fill depth.

Yes. The calculator automatically adds a 15% practical buffer to the estimate. This allows for normal differences in fluffing, packing technique and small top-ups, so you do not need to add another 15% yourself.

Switching on Fragile contents increases the estimate to allow for additional cushioning around the products. Crinkle paper can help reduce movement and fill empty spaces, but highly fragile items such as glass or ceramics may still require protective wrapping, sleeves or inserts.

For an irregular, round or tapered box, use the widest internal length and width as a practical starting point and enter the approximate depth you want to fill. The result may be slightly generous, which is generally safer than ordering too little.

Gently fluff the crinkle paper before placing it into the box. Avoid compressing it unnecessarily because this reduces its volume and makes you use more paper. Build your base, position the products and add paper around the sides or top until the presentation feels balanced.
